“Four Poems” by Caitlin Krastek

Caitlin Krastek (age 6)

Silent E

is quiet.
It just sits there
at the end
of the word.

It’s not fair
that we can’t use them
in first grade

Smooth tops
Mice hide
underneath them:
umbrellas to keep
out the rain

The Alligator

Swims in icky swamps;
it opens its jaws
and chomps
and chomps

Why do you like to write poetry?

Caitlin Krastek: “I like to write poetry because I would like to be a poet, like my Nana, when I grow up.”
