“Let’s Say the Rain” by Oscar Brady

Oscar Brady (age 8)

LET’S SAY THE RAIN

Let’s say the rain
ate the sea
then poured it out.

Let’s say the wind
discovered the cliffs.

You think that nothing happened
even though the horse
ate the house of hay.

I left for my new world
my new life
and my new way of eating.

And now when I look back
I can’t remember.

Why do you like to write poetry?

Oscar Brady: “I like to write poetry because it keeps my brain busy and lets me think. I like poetry because it makes words sound just right. When I write a poem the sound of the words can put more interest into a short space and it can be read in a certain and very particular way … just the way I want it to sound.”
