“Windlight Moon” by Sage Lily Perkins

Sage Lily Perkins (age 4)

WINDLIGHT MOON

The air breathes to wind
light grazes the moon.

The flower, half-full and thistle.

The wind blows softly
the trees bow down

and the grass
the grass is deep.

Why do you like to write poetry?

Sage Lily Perkins: “I first liked writing poetry because of the rhythm. I memorized and recited poems and verse. I especially liked the haiku my dad would read to me. They made me feel like I was in a far-off place. Writing poetry is a great way to let people know what you’re thinking or feeling. But most of all, I like writing poetry because it’s fun.”
