Visual Poetry
In the summer of 2008, Rattle #29 featured a tribute to visual poetry, with 37 mixed-media poems--but we don't want the fun to end there, so we've enlisted Dan Waber, one of the 30 poet/artists featured in that issue, to help us give visual poetry a regular presence on our pages. We're happy to announce the two opportunities for visual poets: 1) Every spring and fall, our biannual newsletters will feature a column by Dan Waber introducing and discussing a visual poem (or series of poems). The poems may be full-color or black and white. The only restriction on style is that the poetic text and the art must be combined into a single piece (no ekphrastic poems). 2) We'll also be making an effort to include visual poetry within our print issues. Poems for print must be black and white and viewable on a 6" x 9" page. Once again, poetry and art must be incorporated into a single work. Submission guidelines for either option are the same. Send up to four image files in an email to:
Please send lo-res files only (no more than 1.0 MB in size). For any poems accepted for publication, we'll need high resolution files (300 dpi). Please include your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number with all submissions. A brief bio is nice, but unnecessary. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but please do not send previously published work. Payment for publication is a subscription to Rattle.
